Gardeners of the World Tree
My universe is rooted in the Norse myths that I love so much. My story is based on the four stags - Dáinn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr, and Duraþrór - who are mentioned only once in the Eddas. In my story, they are four maidens who carry the souls of these stags. They have sung a song of destiny to find their "mirror incarnations" in a life without a complete thread of fate. Their mission is to seek the winged seeds of the World Tree and brew a powerful mead from them, hiding it deep within the canopy of Yggdrasil. Though they do not know it, their mead will help restore the world after Ragnarök.
The Characters
Auðgærðr (Protector of Wealth)
A dragon born into a family of Muspels. In this world, dragons can be born to anyone harboring a corrupt spirit or ill intentions; as such, she was exiled by her own kin. She embodies the power of flame and the stars, which were created from the sparks of Muspelheim.
Ísveig (Icy Strong Drink / Strength of the Ice)
Her name unites her parents, Skaði and Njörðr, describing a talent for ancient and wild magic. She personifies the ice of Niflheim, where she originates, with a "honeyed" hint of Vanir sorcery and the gift of foresight.
Áslæif (Heir of the Aesir)
A woman of Midgard who was granted the honor of becoming a Dís (an elf). Since she is my alter-ego, I looked for a name with a similar meaning to my own but couldn't find a direct match. However, "Áslæif" stands out proudly as it shares roots with the names of Swedish and Norwegian kings (the Olafs) and Leif Erikson, the discoverer of Vinland. She personifies the magic of Galdr song and the winds.
Viðja (Willow Vine)
The sister of the god Víðarr. In Northern tradition, siblings were often given similar names or names constructed from parts of their parents' names. This name perfectly characterizes her nature: her love for the earth and her care for others.
